Goal setting for the new year and beyond

The new year has started and it is time to set some goals to get the seven and three energy flowing. Seven for the planing and Three for the getting it done. In my head I have been pondering goals or get reminded on things I need/want to do. The problem with this is, it’s always just in my head. So now I need to start writing it down.

There are several ways I can do this. One is the wish list. I would write down all the things that come to my mind (brainstorming) Then sort them out into one year, five year and ten year goals. This is a great way to see how wishes become true.

Another way would be to create categories you fill in with goals and things you want to accomplish. The categories can be something like this; Family, work, personal development, spiritual, hobbies, significant other. holidays etc.

Several thoughts about goals.
They are not set in stone. I am permitted to change them when life situations change, I see that they loose importance or I it’s impossible to fulfill them.
They have to be able to be attained in the time frame I set. Otherwise frustration sets in and I loose confidence and joy in the accomplishment.
It is better to set less goals and accomplish them then to many and I am unable to reach them.
It should have a fun factor or at least fill me with some sort of satisfaction. I don’t like the “being driven” behind the goal setting. But I am well aware if I don’t set goals I don’t get anywhere. This is specially with things that I keep forgetting or my passion for procrastination.

Goals have to be SMART
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Attainable
R – Relevant
T – Time -Limited

With this I will go to set my goals for this year and do some planing for the years to come

Happy New Year

It is a new year and I decided to revive my blog again. I don’t know where this will go, but i have some ideas. In the last years the internet has changed immensely and I don’t know if blogging is still the way to go. Facebook seems to have taking over my life and it a good way to be connected. On the other hand I would like something that goes a little beyond Facebook in scope and where I can develop some ideas and writing.

I wish everyone a Happy New Year. New beginnings and tons of blessing for what may come around the corner of tomorrow.

On the Thai roads

On the way down from the mountains I have to come over a small mountain range. (small for Swiss standards anyway) This road connects Chiang Dao with Chai Prakarn. It is quite step and very curvy. I have seen many accidents on that stretch over the years. Yesterday I passed a truck that has tipped over at the road side. The truck was laying on the wrong side of the road just after a step curve and my guess is that the driver took the corner to fast and lost control as the heavy load must have pushed the truck over.

He was lucky there was no traffic on the other lane when it happened.

Wawee Coffee Chiang Mai

4147f3b9-a306-426c-b9cf-7f3dfb881d20-S110x110A view years back it was very difficult if not impossible to get a coffee in Chiang Mai. Of course instant coffee from Nestlè was omniscient, even in the most remote areas of the Chiang Mai mountains. But today there is a growing coffee culture developing in this part of Thailand. Even though the Thai people prefer to drink the Ice Coffee with loads of sugar a taste for Latte, Cappuccino and the Espresso is being explored.

Starbucks came to Chiang Mai with a bang and rescued all the Americanos from having to drink McDonald's instant brew called "caution hot" I don't know how they came up with that name for a coffee. Unfortunately Starbucks has rather been a luxery for us. (to be honest, i find their coffee a bit week) Ten years ago Boncafé was the only shop serving proper coffee. But there was only one shop in all of Chinang Mai. Ah Yes there is also Black Canyon which served different coffee's as well.
Today when you go to Chiang Mai there are hundreds of little coffee shops. The cheapest coffee (15 Baht) I found is in the foodcourt of the Tesco shopping center.
The best coffee I had so far is in the Wawee coffee shops. This is a Thai franchise that uses local coffee beans from the Chiang Mai province. I realy like the strong taste of the Latte. So if possible I have my meetings there 😉 It is also the only coffee shop in Chiang Mai I know to make coffee drinking an unforgettable experience……

Im Englischen sagt man: "no strings attached".

Playing at the UN Irish pub Chiang Mai

The first time I heard Irish music way back in my teenage years I was fascinated by it. The mix between very melancholic love songs and the often very funny ones about drinking.

when I was twenty I left Switzerland for Ireland to learn English. I know an odd choice to learn English. Back then I was a Volunteer in a Christian Center in Rostrever. I had a great time there and learned many things besides English. I visited my first Ceilidh and danced to Irish music. I loved Ireland and traveled to the Island several times. The last time I was there was on our honeymoon. A long time ago.

The last view years some people met in a pub ones a month to play Irish and other folk music. It all started as far as I remember with an invitation to a St. Patricks day night at the English pub. We would occasionally come to play around a table in the pub playing together. Later we got more serious (just enough to have a practice session once in a while) The last year we played at the UN Irish Pub the last Friday in the month and I really enjoy these times.

Thailand isolated

Thailand, an aviation hub and prime tourist destination started the tourist high season crippled with the international airport closed since Tuesday night without a sign that it would open soon. The government is unable to get the demonstrators out of Suvarnabhumi airport.

I watched Thai Tv this morning and it seems like any other day. No News. Yesterday a bomb went off in the Government house injuring more then twenty demonstrators who have been occupying the place since a month. It seems like the PAD is taking the country hostage. Hundreds of thousands of people are stranded in Thailand or on other Airports in the region costing millions of dollars. Thai TV showed a report Yesterday about the export industry suffering because orchids and fruits rot at the airports. This will have an huge effect on the already difficult economy in Thailand. High season started in Thailand and I am sure that thousands of travelers had to cancel their holidays and think twice about coming to Thailand in the future.
People are stranded in Airports all around Thailand besides Bangkok. In Chiang Mai the flights out of the Country are booked out till next week and after that there is only business class available as a friend told me who is trying to get a ticket to Singapore. Last night at around 3'clock three airplanes took of Chiang Mai international airport. I wonder where they went.
The demonstrators said they will only leave the airport if the government resigns.

Momentan sitzen etwa einhunderttausend Reisende in Bangkok fest.

Stuck in the mud

Yesterday was an adventure altogether. Today I am still tired from the trip. We had to get bamboo in the forest for the new building in Hui Kau Laam. What I didn’t know was that it had rained for two days straight up in that area.Cati asked me if it is okay to go. I assured him that it was no problem. Already on the way into the mountains I had to pull out the winch and drag the truck up the hill.

We loaded the bamboo some friends have cut before. This was quite a heavy load and the road was pretty muddy and steep from the small valley we were in. We had to use the winch twice to get up the steep hill. Then later I slid into a deep ravine that would lift the back of the truck way up and push the front axle deep into the dirt. All this happened while driving downhill. The was no way of backing up. Only with the help of some other Lahu on the way to their fields we could push the truck down to lift the front axle out of the dirt.

We all arrived save for lunch. Mida had cooked for us and we were pretty hungry from winching the truck out of the mud so many times.
